I think that throughout this semester, between my 3 studio courses, my art has tended to follow a very fantastical theme that exaggerates the level whimsy found in the natural world. I think that this has been a core interest for me in art and media since I was very very young. I always kind of stuck to fantasy and mythology books, especially greek mythology, because I've always felt spiritual connection the outside and that presents itself throughout the fables of human history. When making a filter, I am already given a humanoid figure as a base (that is whoever is using this filter) so I stuck to humanoid mythological creatures, which there is a plethora of between the various cultures that chose to personify nature. Fairies seemes to mainstream but it could open a lot of creative doors with how much variation there is between fairies of different parts of the world. Then I started to shift towards my personal favorite mythological culture of ancient Greece. The nature spirits in these stories come in many different forms depending on their native habitat but they almost always tend to be women, and I enjoy that sorrt of connection between nature and femininity. There are wood spirits (nymphs ), water spirits (Naiyad and oceanids), the hesperides were the sisters of golden light that looked over the garden where the golden apples reside, oreads are mountain nymphs. This collection of stories/characters gave me a lot of inspiration for a cohesive set of filters that followed this theme that I've set for myself as well as a personal connection towards greek myths. I think i might even include the underworld spirits as an ode to halloween and a reminder that death is a natural process in the natural world but we'll see how i feel about blender at that point.
